Remote Working and Digitalisation Policy

In order to improve the work-life balance of its employees and reduce their impact on the environment, Boğaziçi University is developing its infrastructure on models that will encourage remote working. While these models aim to provide flexible working opportunities for both academic and administrative staff, they also support digitalisation strategies. The University continues to develop digital tools and platforms to reduce the commuting of its employees and to create a more sustainable working order.

1. BULive Web Conference System

BULive, developed by Boğaziçi University, is a free and open source web conferencing software. This system allows employees to organise online virtual meetings and contribute to remote working. This Big Blue Button based platform is a platform independent application, allowing users to easily connect and organise online meetings.

2. Digital University and BULearn

Boğaziçi University aims to integrate distance working and education processes with the Digital University project, which was implemented in line with its digitalisation vision. This project provides opportunities for faculty and staff to produce online content, develop educational design and gain new skills in digital learning environments. With the active use of digital tools in education, a structure that supports distance working has been created.

3. Intensive Working Week and Flexible Working Arrangements

Boğaziçi University plans to offer flexible working models in order to reduce commuting and increase work efficiency. This process, which accelerated with the pandemic period, will facilitate the transition of today's employees to remote working.

4. Cloud-based Workspaces

Boğaziçi University supports the remote working experience by providing digital workspaces for its employees. The BUCloud platform offered by the university strengthens remote working processes by facilitating document sharing, project collaboration and access to other digital resources.

5. Project Management System

Software development activities have been completed on the system that will enable teams to act together in project processes and remote working periods of Boğaziçi University administrative employees. Software system trials are being conducted.

These policies reflect Boğaziçi University's commitment to sustainable and flexible working patterns, while also revealing the important steps it has taken towards digitalisation.

Web Conferencing System: BULive

BULive, developed by Boğaziçi University, is an online virtual meeting and distance education tool that enables users in different locations to communicate. This BigBlueButton based platform is a free and open source web conferencing software. Developed with Ruby and JavaScript and running platform independent thanks to its HTML5 based interface, this application offers many features such as creating classes and groups, interaction via whiteboard, screen and file sharing, external video viewing, chat, hand raising, survey and note sharing, video/lecture recording.

Boğaziçi University aims to integrate distance learning and education processes with the Digital University project implemented in line with its digitalisation vision. The BULearn platform developed for this purpose offers faculty and staff opportunities to produce  online content, develop educational design and gain new skills in digital learning environments. A structure that supports remote working with the active use of digital tools in education has been created.

Busy Working Week and Flexible Working Arrangements

Boğaziçi University aims to develop flexible working models  to increase work efficiency and reduce the frequency of commuting. This process, which accelerated with the pandemic period, aims to facilitate the adaptation of employees to modern working conditions and the transition to remote working.

Project Management System

Boğaziçi University has developed a project management system to enable administrative staff to manage project processes more effectively and to ensure that teams work in harmony during remote working periods. The software development process has been completed and trial phases are ongoing to evaluate the functioning of the system.

These practices reflect Boğaziçi University's commitment to sustainable and flexible working styles, while revealing the important steps it has taken towards digitalisation.
