14.5.5 Watershed management strategy
Having an Enforced Basin Management Strategy Based on the Location Specific Diversity of Water Species
Boğaziçi University takes an active role in various projects to implement watershed management strategies based on the location-specific diversity of aquatic species. These strategies are vital for the conservation of aquatic ecosystems and sustainable water management. One of the prominent projects focused on identifying sources of pollution in the Ergene Basin and developing solutions for water quality management.
Led by Boğaziçi University's Institute of Environmental Sciences, this TUBITAK-funded project aims to monitor pollutant sources and analyze their impacts on the basin. At the end of the project, it is aimed to develop software that will provide water quality management for the Ergene Basin. This is an important step towards the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems and the conservation of location-specific biodiversity.
In addition, Boğaziçi University, through the Wildlife Conservation Commission, develops policies to ensure the protection of animals and flora on campuses in their natural habitats. The Commission's duties include inventorying natural assets such as monumental trees and endemic plants, minimizing the negative impact of animals on buildings, and raising awareness to promote a philosophy of coexistence. These initiatives demonstrate that the university has a comprehensive approach to the protection of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
These projects aim to protect the diversity of aquatic species by producing scientifically based and sustainable solutions in watershed management.

Watershed Management Strategy
Boğaziçi University is actively involved in various projects that develop catchment management strategies based on region-specific aquatic species diversity. These strategies are vital for the conservation of aquatic ecosystems, sustainable management of biodiversity and improvement of water quality.
Projects and Studies Carried Out
1. Ergene Basin Water Quality Management Project:
- This TUBITAK-funded project, led byBoğaziçi University Institute of Environmental Sciences, aims to monitor pollution sources in the Ergene Basin and develop solutions to improve water quality.
- The project aims to analyse the impacts of pollution sources and develop software for water quality management. This project is an important step for the protection of aquatic species diversity specific to the region and the continuity of ecosystem health.
